Rice Cereal

Lucas ate rice cereal for the first time yesterday. He is not really sure what to think about it. I am not too sure how much he actually ate, but I guess that he is learning and I am sure that he will figure it out and do great with it. He is so cute! He is wearing a great bib that my friend made for him. It worked perfect!

Sleeping

When we brought Lucas home, he slept in this basket on our dresser. We transitioned him into sleeping in his room but he is in the basket in his crib. I think that we will soon transition him into his crib. Up until last week we still swaddled Lucas really tightly. We just started wrapping him with one of his arms out and he is doing great sleeping. Maybe if he is lucky he will get both of his arms!

We have tried to keep him on a good nap and bedtime routine and he does so well. We will read a couple books, sing a couple songs, and then we put him down and he falls asleep on his own. It is so nice! He is such a great baby.

This is one of the songs that we sing each time he goes down for a nap or bed (so he hears it about 3-4 times a day!). We may not be the best singers (I am actually pretty terrible), but we do it for Lucas and he seems to know what it means when he hears this song:

I am a child of God and he has sent me here
Has given me an earthly home with parents kind and dear

(Chorus) Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, help me find the way
Teach me all that I must do to live with Him some day

I am a child of God and so my needs are great
Help me to understand his words before it grows to late

Chorus

I am a child of God, rich blessings are in store
If I but learn to do his will, I'll live with him once more

Chorus

Worth the wait

My sisters made this shirt for Lucas before they knew he was Lucas. I think everyone agrees: He was worth the wait.

Spring

We had a great spring day a few days ago. We decided to go on a walk on the trail that runs along the river here. It was a beautiful day. Lucas enjoyed being outside and looking at the trees.

This was our first time as a family of three to walk on the trail. This is the same trail that Ryan and I ride our bikes on for hundreds of miles each summer. This is the same trail that we have walked on for the last five years that we have known each other. This is the same trail that we walked and cried on after the failed IVF attempt. This is the same trail that we walked on for miles and miles as we talked about adding to our family through adoption. This is the same trail that we would get so frustrated on because we had no idea when we would be able to adopt. This is the same trail that we would get so excited about taking our kids there.

I kind of got teared up as I thought of all the time that we had spent on that trail thinking and hoping about our future and our children and now here we were with the most perfect little baby in the entire world.

And I realized that we were emotionally attached to this trail and it was such a tender experience to finally be able to walk on it as a family of three.

5 Months

This cute boy is 5 months old today!

A serious case of March Madness is developing in our home as we speak. We are so excited for the NCAA basketball tournament. We watched a few conference tournament games. We are BYU fans first and foremost and then we are local favorite Gonzaga fans. My sister got Lucas these jammies and so he wore them last week as we watched them win their conference championship. He looked so cute!

Can you see his teeth popping out?!
I can't believe this boy is 5 months old. He is getting so big. It is amazing how alert he is. He wakes up a happy boy and we can hear him cooing on the monitor and then stays pretty happy the rest of the day. He loves mommy and daddy. The other night my niece stayed over and Lucas had gone to bed. We thought that we could go to a movie, but my niece called shortly after we got there and Lucas had woken up and was just screaming. She tried to calm him down, but I think once he saw that we weren't there, he just was not going to go back to sleep until we got home. He was asleep about 2 minutes after we got home.
He still loves sucking on his hands. He does this every chance he gets. If his blankie is on his hands, he likes to pull it up to his face and suck on that too. He loves watching the Baby Einstein movies. If we are in the car on the way home and it is time to eat he will calm down if I pull out my phone and turn on a Baby Einstein clip. He likes taking baths and being naked. He likes getting his diaper changed especially when we blow on his tummy. He loves standing up and his legs are getting very strong. He tolerates tummy time and gets stronger pushing himself up everyday.
Lucas is such a great baby. We love him so much! It is so fun to watch him grow and learn everyday!

Teeth!

We were completely surprised when I felt and saw Lucas' two bottom teeth. He hadn't been cranky so to find two teeth already popped through was crazy. Yesterday he was drooling so much that it made his shirt all wet, so today he is wearing a bib. He was "born cute!"

Fan

Wearing his lucky BYU socks for the game against San Diego State on Saturday, they weren't lucky last night against New Mexico unfortunately

Yes, this shirt is homemade, he doesn't have any BYU clothes that fit him right now

BYU FANS! We love rooting for the Cougars! Go Cougs! We are excited for March Madness!

Classic Lucas

This is what we see Lucas doing so much throughout the day. He loves sucking on his fingers, the more, the better. So cute!
