New Year

We celebrated New Year's Eve with Ryan's brother and his family. We were heading home to put Lucas to bed before midnight, so we had a countdown to bring in 2013. Lucas loved this.

He got to play Angry Birds at a friend's house

We got quite a bit of thick snow the other day so Lucas and I went in the backyard to build a fort. He really likes playing in the snow. Every time we get out of the car he says "Play in the snow!"

Lucas loves to pretend that he is asleep. So he went in the fort and laid down and pretended that he was sleeping.
Lucas has been learning exponentially lately, especially with his communication. He also likes to pretend different things. He will pretend he is asleep or he is a cat. And he likes to put Ducky down to sleep and then he will go check on him. After awhile he will saying, "Ducky wake up!"

Some funny things that he has said lately:
After taking the Christmas decorations down, there was a nail in the wall. He spotted it and turned to Ryan and said, "Hammer, please."
I was cutting up some broccoli for dinner. Lucas pushed the stool up and grabbed the broccoli and said "Knife, please." I am glad he is so polite!
He always says thank you, but doesn't grasp "You're welcome." When we say thank you, he says thank you back.
If he bumps into me or something like that he says, "Sorry." He will even say "Sorry" to Ducky. "Sorry, Ducky!"
One night he grabbed Ryan's keys, wallet, and phone. He came into the room I was in and said, "Bye," and gave me a thumbs up. I asked where he was going. "Abby's (his 8 year old cousin)."
Last week his cousins came over and babysat him. The next morning around 5 I heard him talking in his sleep, "Abby, Abby, Abby, Abby!"
He was sitting on the stairs while I got his shoes on. He had a baseball hat on and I asked him to give me a kiss. The brim of the hat hit me when he was going in for the kiss. He said, "Sorry," took off the hat and leaned in for another kiss.
Every night before going to be we read books and then kneel down to say prayers. He has been learning how to say his prayers and will repeat what we say. He always whispers when saying prayers. We tell him to talk louder and he will keep whispering, but make his mouth bigger. After we say prayers he knows that it is bedtime, so he asks "More prayers." How can we say no to that? We usually give in, but only for 1 or 2 more prayers.

Cousins

We went to 2 out of town funerals (for my 92 year old grandpa and 3 year old cousin) in the last 4 days. We did a lot of driving. Lucas was a champ in the car. Luckily he had cousins to play with and a DVD player to watch. It was good to be around so much family. We are going to stay home for the next few days and get back on our schedule.

Ducky

While I brush Lucas' teeth, Ryan usually goes into Lucas' room and hides Ducky. He loves to go in his room and find what Ducky is doing. This was the other night and Lucas thought it was really funny that Ducky was wearing his tie:

Then he tried to put him back up
Lucas is really into hiding. He says "hide it" when he hears the garage door open and knows that Ryan is coming in. He usually hides under a blanket on the couch and thinks it is hilarious. He is a pretty good hider until he starts giggling. He also likes to hide in our bed. What a silly boy!

A boy and his ducky

Lucas still loves his ducky. It usually stays in his crib but on days that we go to babysit it is in my diaper bag for his naps. He usually finds him and snuggles with him and this time he even wrapped his blanket around him and started patting him. I guess he thought ducky needed to take his nap.

Ryan just said the other day that we really do need to buy some back up Duckys, just in case.

Favorite spots

Cuddling up with Ducky on our bed

Lucas runs to the fridge when it is open and always climbs up and moves things around.

He also loves getting on the dishwasher and taking out any utensils and playing with them

Reading on our bed

Lucas has recently discovered how to climb into the dryer and thinks it is so fun. He loves to bring a phone in there for all his important calls and texts.

He also has been loving to climb into the laundry basket with Ducky and eat crackers and watch tv while I fold the laundry. Silly boy.

12 months old

Lucas had a fun time playing at the doctor's office today. He really loves looking at himself. Here are his stats:

Weight: 17lbs 15oz---------1% He is almost to 18lbs!

Height: 29.5inches---------41%

Head Circ: 17 1/4inches----12-13%

He is still a little guy, but still on the scale and growing at the same rate. He sounded and looked healthy. We are happy that this whole year he has only needed to go to the doctor for his wellness checks (knock on wood). He has only had a little cold, but other than that not sick (knock on wood again). We have been blessed. He had to get 4 shots and he did not like that one bit. He was trying to kick the nurse and get away from her. He calmed down pretty quickly and then we came home and he immediately fell asleep. I hope he doesn't feel sad when he wakes up.

He is cruising around holding onto things, but hasn't yet tried to take steps. He doesn't stand for very long without holding onto something, but I am sure that in no time he will be walking. We are still trying to teach him how to go down the stairs backwards. He still tries to get into everything. I put some child proof locks on some of the cabinets and he is so mad that he can't open them. He has been flexing his muscles and he squeezes his hands and his neck gets all tense. It is really funny. He is a sweet boy who loves cuddling with his stuffed animals especially his yellow ducky and yellow lamb. He sleeps well, eats a ton, and is a happy little guy.
This is the best picture of the flexing that we have so far, but I don't feel like it does it justice.

He saw his ducky's twin at Target and had to cuddle it.

Ducky

We recently bought Lucas a lovey. We call him Ducky. Of course Lucas loves him because he is a yellow duck. Lucas had a rough few weeks getting to sleep, because he would stand up when we put him down. But now that we got him Ducky, he goes to sleep with no problems whatsoever. It is so precious to watch him cuddle Ducky. He holds him close to his face and snuggles and falls asleep. We are happy that we found him something that he loves.
